Challenge — Only 15 months preparation time to present Austria at the World Expo in Aichi, Japan.

Objective —  To position Austria in the World Expo’s competition of nations as an innovative and sustainable country with all its positive facets related to the economy, culture and science, to market the “Austria” brand in the media as attractively as possible and to stay within the budget of 6.5 million Euros.

Accomplishment — Highly attractive pavilion with an interactive exhibition on the topic “Wisdom of Nature,” including outstanding cultural offers ranging from visual arts to music. Intensive networking platform for business, politics and science.

Impact —  Voted one of the Top 3 pavilions with almost one million visitors, very far-reaching and positive media coverage: all important Japanese media, as well as television reports on the ABC News program “Good Morning America.”

This also applies to the World Expos in Zaragoza, Spain and Shanghai, China. Teams with the strongest ideas (and not those with the most references) were always selected in the sense of a high-quality talent pool to design the architecture.
