TEMPTATION FOR ART - VIENNA ART WEEK 2009
November 16 to 22, 2009
Following four successful years, ART&IDEA is pleased to announce the opening of the fifth edition of VIENNA ART WEEK on Monday, November 16, 2009. VIENNA ART WEEK, an initiative of the Vienna Dorotheum conceived by Art Cluster Vienna, offers a unique opportunity to experience the dynamic Viennese art scene, meet some of the most challenging minds of the international art world and enjoy an inspiring program that features art from classical antiquity to cutting edge contemporary art positions. The motto of this year is Temptation for Art.
Robert Punkenhofer, founder / director of ART&IDEA and artistic director of VIENNA ART WEEK, states: Vienna certainly ranks amongst the 4 to 5 most important art cities in the world. Our yearly festival documents this fact in an impressive way. For our anniversary, we have put together an intense program of exhibition openings, a Gallery Night, guided tours of public and private art collections, tours to artworks in the public space and to selected examples of contemporary architecture as well as a special performance series.
Compared to the previous years, the member institutions of the Art Cluster Vienna cooperating for the VIENNA ART WEEK 2009 together with further program partners have drawn up a far broader program this year, which provides occasion for both art experts and the wider art-interested public to enjoy and be inspired by the pleasurable temptations of the rich and diverse art scene in and around Vienna.
Exclusive guided tours through special shows and permanent exhibitions, exciting insights into public and private art collections, city walks to artworks in the public realm, studio visits with artists, architects, designers, and fashion makers, exhibition openings of art institutions and galleries, performances, conversations with artists and collectors, lectures and a high-calibre panel discussion program will be creating an inspiring atmosphere for networking, exchange of ideas, and communication.
Featuring more than 60 individual events, the VIENNA ART WEEK is the largest annual festival spanning art from the Baroque to the present day in Vienna. The goal of the event is to focus visual art activities to further position Vienna internationally as a lively and innovative art location. With the opening of the program concept, the VIENNA ART WEEK 2009 seeks to address a new public to broaden the basis for increased interest in art and related disciplines such as architecture, design and fashion.
