The creative industries are becoming increasingly important as a driver of growth and innovation.

Reinold Mitterlehner

To make a dramatic difference you must innovate or die.

Tom Peters, writer and consultant

An increasing number of cities, regions and countries are developing economic strategies that focus on the creative industries. But what is it that makes the creative industries so vital? Is this just a temporary hype, or a trend that is here for the long run? The publication A Way Beyond Creative Industries seeks answers to these questions. Designers, architects, musicians and fashion designers, but also academics and politicians from all five continents, including Richard Florida, Tom Peters, Alberto Alessi, Ben van Berkel, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Karim Rashid and Marios Schwab, were invited to analyse the Austrian and international creative industries scene from a global perspective. With a collage of contributions coupled with an array of articles on the most important exhibitions and festivals in the creative industries, the publication offers an insight into creative businesses in Austria and around the globe, bringing together know-how and networks of relevant contacts.
